The Road Trip Up North Part 15: Lonely Country Roads- December 22, 2017

Imagine our relief when, after the long and winding drive up there in the cold, we could finally see vast plains and sunshine. It was almost 1:00 in the afternoon.

“Oh my god… just a while ago we were in a very cold place but now, it’s so hot. How can the same place have different weather?” Lee said to himself. I agreed with him. We were suddenly on a hot place—so hot that I could almost see the heat waves.

The road before us looked parched and lonely, seemingly leading us to a godforsaken place. It’s a pity that I could not take a picture of the road. As I mentioned in another post, during the travel, I did not expect that I would be a storyteller. I just wanted to enjoy every moment of the travel. I hope to pass through those lonely country roads again someday…someday.

After approximately an hour, we were driving on a concrete road. We were suddenly hungry. We agreed that when we see a roadside restaurant, we would gobble up all the food that we can eat in preparation for the long journey we had ahead. We wanted to have some hot soup, rice, meat, fish, and vegetables—you know, the kind of food that nourishes the body—but there were no restaurants around. We drove for the next one hour, hoping to see even a small roadside eatery, but really…there was none. Finally, we could see a busy place, a place with cars, buildings, and all. There were fast food restaurants everywhere. I got out, bought some McDonald’s food, and we had our late lunch in the car.

Soon, it was time to drive again. The early afternoon became cloudy. In my mind, I kept on chanting “Rain, rain, go away…”

The early afternoon suddenly became cloudy.
Rain, rain, go away…
