The Road Trip Up North Part 30: Enchanted By The Cave-December 26, 2017

I don’t know how to edit out the cars. I used my 2008 Model Panasonic Lumix Digital 10 Megapixels Digital Camera when I took this. Also, this is a temporary picture. This was taken during my solo trip in April 2019.

After driving for a few minutes, we finally saw the sign leading to Enchanted cave. At this point, the camera battery was already COMPLETELY DEAD. What a shame, there were so many moments and views I wanted to capture.

There were fossilized shells everywhere, still embedded on the ground, and corals that have turned into stones, of fossilized clams still embedded on the ground.  This means that the mountain ranges on which enchanted cave is located was once a part of the West Philippine Sea, submerged in water. I wonder what geological occurrences took place in that area that turned the once sea-floor place into a towering mountain. It must have been really scary, that phenomenon that took place long time ago.

We also went to the cave, which is the main attraction of the area. It was my first time to enter a cave. There was a ladder that led to the cave to assist the people who would go down. The people there were swimming. One had to take a shower thoroughly before going to the lake inside the cave. Yes, there’s a lake inside the cave, and there were lifeguards nearby because there are some deep parts of the cave. There were some signs—like on which part of the water is 4 feet deep, which part is 7 feet deep, and so on.

After a while, Lee and I went to another part of the place and we saw a very high cross. Lee and I climbed the cross, but Lee managed to go only as high as the crossbars. The ladder leading to the top was propped against the wall of the cross itself and the wind from the West Philippine Sea was blowing hard, so it was indeed scary to climbed it but…anyway, I had to climb it and collect some memories. What was I there for, in the first place?

From the top, I could see the West Philippine Sea and I was fascinated by it. I was scared, it was scary on top—but it was also one fascinating experience.

When finally I could get down from the cross, we decided to go to Bolinao Falls.
